The Hunting Program on Moody AFB's Main Base is a responsibility of the 23d Civil Engineer Squadron's Environmental Element (229-257-5881). Hunting is limited to weekends and down-days when military training is not occurring. The actual management of the hunting program is conducted by a volunteer group of Moody AFB personnel known as "Huntmasters." This group, working under the direction of the Moody AFB Natural Resources Manager, manage the check-in and check-out of hunters, collect biological data from harvested animals, and ensure hunting is conducted safely and in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Authorized Personnel: Hunting is authorized for DoD CAC holders and their dependents only. No guests are permitted to hunt on Main Base.
Requirements: Persons hunting on Moody AFB are required to possess applicable Georgia State Hunting Licenses and either a Moody AFB Hunting Permit or a Combination Hunting and Fishing permit. Additionally, hunters must complete an annual Moody AFB-specific hunter safety course and must have proof of completion of a state hunter safety course as required by State of Georgia Hunting Regulations and Requirements. The Moody AFB-specific hunting safety course is valid for each hunting season (September through May), and must be retaken prior to the next hunting season. For information on hunting safety course dates and times, contact the Environmental Element at 257-5881.
Hunting Opportunities: Hunting is authorized for white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkeys, feral hogs, and small game on Main Base. Hunters are required to sign in to a specific hunting location (stand) for each hunt for accountability purposes. Moody AFB conforms to the State of Georgia seasons and bag limits, with a couple of additional restrictions: 1) Only one big game animal (deer or turkey) may be harvested during any one hunt (morning or evening); and, 2) Animals cannot be field-dressed on the installation to avoid attracting vultures or other animals that might pose a threat to aircraft.
The management of hunting on Grand Bay Range has been delegated to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources through a license agreement with Moody AFB. The 5,874-acre range has been included with state-owned/leased property south of Moody AFB to form the Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Hunting on the federally owned portion of Grand Bay WMA is limited to weekends when the Range is not open for military training.
Authorized Personnel: Hunting on Grand Bay WMA is authorized for the general public, to include Moody AFB personnel and their guests.
Requirements: Persons hunting on Grand Bay WMA are required to possess applicable Georgia State Hunting Licenses and a Georgia Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Stamp. A Moody AFB Hunting Permit or Moody AFB Combination Hunting and FIshing Permit can be substituted for a Georgia WMA stamp for Grand Bay WMA. Hunters must also have proof of completion of a state hunter safety course as required by State of Georgia Hunting Regulations and Requirements.
Hunting Opportunities: Hunting is authorized for white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkeys, alligators, and small game in accordance with Georgia State Regulations. For a list of available weekends and access limitations and requirements, refer to the State of Georgia Hunting Seasons and Regulations publication.
